Health Care Stocks Sit Out Wednesday Market Surge

Health care stocks slumped today but pared some of their losses before the closing bell, with the NYSE Health Care Index falling almost 0.6% while shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were down about 0.9% as a group.

In company news, Cytosorbents Corp (CTSO) shares advanced Wednesday after regulators in Germany authorized a reimbursement procedure code for the immunotherapy company’s CytoSorb therapy, effective Jan 1, 2017.

CytoSorb recently was used in a first-ever successful treatment of a patient with Dengue Shock Syndrome, according to an article in the Journal of Evidence Based Medicine Healthcare. Doctors in India treated a 32-year-old man with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome with CystoSorb for about six hours every other day, with the patient gradually improving and fully recovering.
