Facebook Says it Will Establish Stronger Ties to News Industry

Facebook said Wednesday it is starting The Facebook Journalism Project, establishing stronger ties to the news industry to develop products and working with publishers and educators as part of its effort to reduce the amount of fake news.

The company said it will connect its product and engineering teams with news organizations to “build together from the early stages of the product development process” and is working on new storytelling formats and exploring what it can do wit partners to support local news and promote independent media.

Facebook said is also conducting a series of e-learning course on Facebook products, tools and services for journalists and will expand these to nine additional language. It is also launching a program to work with third-party fact checking organizations to identify hoaxes on Facebook.
